Custom Flooring/Custom Milling At The Boxed Heart Flooring Company we create your flooring when it is ordered.  This gives you countless options to create a floor that meets your unique taste.  In addition, our precision milling gives you consistency in the profile for ease of installation. Domestic Species Grown in the good ole USA!  You will be amazed at the number of options domestic species offer.  From oak, walnut, cherry, and maple to elm, hickory, sycamore, sassafras, and others, American grown woods are incredibly diverse and beautiful.  This is our way of supporting American industry. Imported Hardwoods If you’re interested in other species not listed, let us know.  We have access to nearly any hardwood available.  If you want it, we’ll find it! Natural Grade Woods natural beauty comes from the character that nature has given.  We try to retain that beauty.  In general, tight knots, less than ½” holes, color variations and other tight defects will be left in.  Blown out or loose knots will be taken out.  If you want to take out knots for clear grade or leave in loose knots for an extreme character grade, that can be done and is priced upon request. Long Lengths Wide planks and long lengths were the standard in hardwood flooring of a century ago.  We keep that tradition going by offering wide planks (if that is your preference) and long lengths for all our floors.   Our flooring runs 2’ to 11’ with the average length at 6’ to 7’.  This not only gives you an exquisite appearance, but will make installation quicker and easier. Moisture Content All of our hardwood flooring is dried to industry standard of 6% to 8% moisture content.   New versus Old Wood Although we support those whose preference is to use salvaged wood, we believe that our planet’s natural resources are given to us to manage and use responsibly.  Using new wood results in precision sawing, drying, and milling giving our customer’s a sound product with structural integrity at a more affordable price. Custom Finishing The Boxed Heart Flooring Company excels in custom finishing.  You can order your flooring unfinished or we can work with you to produce the look you  want for your floor.  Stains and Finishes We are certain you will find a wide range of stain colors to suit your needs.  Woodwright finishing products result in a beautiful, silky finish and provide protection and superior resistance to harmful elements such as cold, moisture, scratching, marring and chemicals. Maintenance and Care of your Hardwood Floor You can protect your flooring by using mats or rugs at entries or high traffic areas, use felt protectors on all furniture, and remove dust regularly.  Mopping with a well-wrung mop is also acceptable as the moisture will dry fairly quickly.  One incredible benefit to our distressed and weathered surfaces are that they are very forgiving!   Installation of your Hardwood Floor Your hardwood flooring will be dried to an industry standard of 6% to 8% when it leaves our facility.  Wood will lose or take on moisture according to the surroundings in which it is placed.  It is important to note that all painting and drywall installation, which will increase the humidity in your home, should be completed before storing your hardwood flooring on the premises.  Once you do receive the flooring, it should be stored for a minimum of seven days inside the home (with air conditioning or heating system functioning) so that it will acclimate to the normal room conditions of your home before installation.  By doing this, you will reduce the chance of expansion or contraction of the joints once the floor has been installed.  Please remember, wood is a porous surface and is subject to this natural process.
